Blackwater originates in County Kerry. We will be fishing guided by Ballyduff Bridge Salmon Fishery. It is a family run fishing guide business, run by Connie Corcoran and his son Jason Corcoran. They have over 90 years of experience in guiding and fishing on the Cork Blackwater River. Connie started leading back in 1961 and no one else knows more about the river than he does.
Jason started guiding when he was 13 years old and he has his father’s many years of experience in his blood.
Ballyduff Bridge Salmon Fishery is the largest guide business on Blackwater when it comes to the number of fishing spots.
The Blackwater River is re-establishing itself as Ireland’s best salmon river thanks to a major effort and a ban on driftnets.
We have to fish for the early salmon. In April the rise begins to pick up speed and in May there is full speed on the rise of especially grilse between 2 – 4 kilos, but there are salmon of up to 9-10 kilos.
You should not expect to catch many large salmon, but you can expect a fishery with the best guides who know all the good spots and how to fish them. You can expect fishing in a lovely river and in an environment with fishermen, pubs and cozy experiences.
Blackwater is full of nature, culture and history. You walk in lush nature and you fish in the shade of ancient castle ruins and monasteries. It is an experience in every way.
